A modern and prosperous nation located on an island off the coast of West Eurasia.
 
Several hundred years ago, the realm of Avan was torn by civil strife. The forces of revolution and democracy fought to remove the monarchy from power. A republic was established and King Eddard was exiled to the New Land colonies. Eddard and the disenfranchised nobility took hold of Avanish colonial states and provinces, struggling with the other holdings of the aristocratic nations of West Eurasia.
 
A little over half a century ago, while the rest of the world was mired in a global conflict, the North [American] Successor States were under the heel of a prime manipulator and despotic King. The Republic held no great love for the monarchy and other aristocratic institutions. However, the Republic could not afford to tolerate regimes of tyranny and violent oppression, especially at a time when fascist and totalitarian nations threatened the globe. Avan supplied arms, materiel, tanks and other war machines to support the war against the Despot of the Successor States. Republican soldiers fought side by side with their Royalist cousins to overthrow the North [American] King and defeat the Nazis in West Eurasia. This alliance was the catalyst for closing the age-old rift that separated the successor states of Avan's exiled monarchy and the Republic.
 
Since its inception, the Republic has intervened overtly and covertly to support the cause of liberty and freedom all around the world. And yet, the nobility of Avan's overseas activities has been constantly called into question and Avanish foreign policy has been characterized as imperialistic and self-serving. The political savvy constantly rally against the blunt and aggressive methods used in the pursuit of democratic ideals. However, one could also argue that many nations, now under democratic government, would have fallen prey to totalitarian and oppressive regimes without the help of Avan and its allies.
